Background
The 3EzSeries storybooks are born out of many years of teaching and/or working with different categories of children and young people across the East and the Horn of Africa in the areas of child rights, child protection, child participation, education and peace building.
As a concept, the 3EzSeries was conceived in late 2014 — as the then prospective writers toyed with a range of ideas to come up with creative and practical ways to educate, equip and empower children and young people in the areas mentioned above.
The 3EzSeries provides an easily accessible story bookshelf for supplementary readers — both online and in bookstores. Though our storybooks are currently accessible in English, plans are under way to have the 3EzSeries stories availed in other international and local languages — and in ways that would make the storybooks accessible in very resource constrained and hard-to-reach locations.
Using context appropriate stories, the 3EzSeries specially focuses on issues affecting the rights of children and young people. Some children experience these issues directly in their daily lives. Others can bear witness to how these issues affect or negatively impact their peers or other children.
The 3EzSeries is designed to directly target children and young people; and indirectly, their parents or caregivers, or other adults or duty bearers to actively get involved in matters affecting children and young people. The 3EzSeries storybooks design allows children and/or young people to enjoy reading the stories individually or in groups — or together with their parents or caregivers or other adults around them. We believe from experience, adult involvement and support is very critical. Each storybook makes reference to a relevant Article in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) — currently domesticated context appropriately in a number of national constitutions and children’s laws. This provides opportunity for the reader to appreciate the CRC and/or national children’s laws to protect children and their application in day-to-day life.
Every 3EzSeries storybook comes with a user’s guide on the inside back cover page to help adults around children to support their children as they get educated, equipped and empowered. The 3EzSeries user’s guide and questions make the stories more interactive and thought provoking.
