Kato Nkimba (PhD) is a consultant, researcher and writer. His multidisciplinary work blends in the world of literature, culture and social sciences. He has researched and taught various courses at universities in Political Science, such as Black Social and Political Thought as well as Human Rights and Democracy. Nkimba has also taught German and Kiswahili as foreign languages, including developing Kiswahili language resources for Wayne State University’s Language Laboratory (Michigan, USA).

Of recent, Nkimba has concentrated on providing a wide range of services to international and local NGOs, governments and other institutions — supporting projects implemented in development, emergency and fragile contexts in Eastern, Southern and Horn of Africa. His expertise is child rights, child participation and child protection covering all forms of violence against children. As a researcher, he enjoys exceptional expertise working with children and young people using child-friendly and participatory approaches and tools.

More specifically, Nkimba has for over a decade worked with in and out-of-school children and young people as well as duty bearers. He has raised their awareness on child protection, child rights and related global and national legal and policy frameworks. In addition, he has equipped and empowered them to transform systems and structures. This has positioned many of them to confidently voice their views and actively get involved in child-led initiatives, other community and school-based activities as well as in advocacy campaigns to strengthen protection of children and other young people’s rights.

Nkimba leads the 3EzSeries Team. He draws from his deep practical experience and understanding of child rights, protection and participation to steer the team in developing stories and other resources that: raise awareness of current and relevant issues; maintain focus on local content nuanced with global thinking; and are offered in child-friendly formats.
